Shared Containers

Properties can agree to use a shared waste bin (group). Shared waste bins can be used for collecting all types of waste.

In urban areas, properties located within 300 meters of the shared waste bin along a driveway can use the shared waste bins. Urban areas are defined in Appendix 2 of the waste management regulations and can also be viewed in the map application.

In other areas, properties can use shared waste bins if one of the following conditions is met:

  • Properties are located within three kilometers of the shared waste bin along a driveway.
  • Properties are located along the same private road or connected private roads, and the shared waste bin is placed on the private road or within three kilometers of the start of the private road or road network. A property is located on a private road if its address is on a private road.
  • The property is accessed by boat, and the shared waste bin is placed at the boat landing site or within three kilometers of the boat landing site.

Using shared waste bins with neighboring properties can significantly reduce your property’s waste management costs. The costs are shared among the properties in the cluster, and individual bills can be sent to each property.

Notification of a Shared Waste Bin

This form (in Finnish) is used to notify about a new waste groupshared bin, changes in the shareholders of the waste group, and the termination of the waste group within the Salpakierto Oy area.

Only the responsible person of the waste group can notify about the waste group and its changes. The responsible person of the waste group commits to notifying the customer service of waste transportation about changes in the group. If you are a shareholder of the waste group, please contact the responsible person of the waste group.

The group notification includes the addresses of all properties using the shared waste container. You can check the address of the property from the National Land Survey’s Map Service. In the Map Service, you can search for the property by address or directly from the map. You can view property boundaries and identifiers from the Map Layers menu of the service.

Please note that composting (including a shared composter for multiple properties) is notified to the waste management authority of the Lahti region using a separate form. You can find the electronic form for composting notification at lahti.fi/jatehuoltoviranomainen -> Waste Management Services and Forms.
