Waste bins at the property

The property owner must arrange a waste collection point that can accommodate a sufficient number of waste bins in accordance with the waste management regulations of the area. The waste bin must be suitable for the type of waste being collected, and its size must correspond to the amount of waste generated on the property.

Waste bins must be sized so that they can always be closed, taking into account the emptying interval. It is not allowed to use excessively large waste bins to reduce the frequency of emptying. The size of the waste bins is determined by the amount of waste generated and the emptying interval.

A mixed waste bin can either be purchased or rented from a private waste collection company. Bio and packaging waste bins can either use an existing old bin or a bin provided by Salpakierto. There is no separate rental fee for the bio or packaging waste bin provided by Salpakierto; the bin is included in the emptying price.

Waste bins must be covered, equipped with handles and wheels, and suitable for mechanical loading and washing.

Markings on the Waste Bin

The owner of the waste bin must mark the type of waste on the lid and/or front of the bin. The type of waste is indicated using the waste type names used in the area’s waste management regulations. The entity responsible for collection must mark their contact information on the waste bin.

The holder or responsible person of the waste bin must mark the address of the property or the corresponding number on the waste bin if the bin is not located in the immediate vicinity of the property. This way, the waste truck driver knows which property’s waste bins are involved.

Placement of Waste Bins on the Property

Waste bins must be placed on the property so that they can be emptied quickly and easily at all times of the year. The waste truck must be able to reach at least 10 meters from the waste bins without obstacles and safely. Waste bins must be placed in a collection point that is accessible without a threshold, step, or other obstacle.

In a regular bio waste bin, a large biodegradable inner bag must be used. The inner bag is included in Salpakierto’s bio waste collection, and the waste truck driver is responsible for placing it. In the ventilated bio waste bin provided by Salpakierto, a large inner bag is not used; instead, the bio waste must be packed in biodegradable bags, preferably paper, before placing it in the bin.

Waste bins must not cause health hazards, environmental contamination, or littering, nor pose a safety risk to emptying personnel or users. Waste bins must be rinsed at least once a year. The bio waste bin must be rinsed as needed, but at least twice a year. The rinsing of bio and packaging waste bins is included in the emptying price.
